Mom would take me to a Christian bookstore when I was little, “Aida’s Bookstore”. I was probably around five years old on this particular day. I loved going to the bookstore because my mom would get me the children scratch offs of pictures of little bible stories. Once I scratch the paper, a picture would show up by the rubbing of my pencil on the paper. The bookstore was maybe a fifteen minute drive from my home in New Jersey. As we were driving we saw a man on the side of the road, a homeless man. My mom had mentioned that we should go get him a sandwich and something to drink. So we did and we brought this sandwich right to him. I remember looking into his eyes they were so blue...blue as crystal. Even now, while writing this I can see him sitting there. His clothes all shattered and dirty, but his eyes blue as the sky. I couldn’t help but stare at his eyes. He was thankful and then we walked back towards the car.
Once we got back to the car we turned and looked and he was no longer there. Within seconds he disappeared. Now mind you it was an open area. I don’t think he could run away that quickly and us not even able to spot him. Our car was parked on the side of the road right next to were he was.
That day my mom and I knew we encountered something special. Was it an angel? I believe so. I know that there was something so special about this man and the look he had in his eyes I could never forget. As a child I would see flashes of light go from room to room in our apartment that we lived in.
You never know when you will encounter an angel. Even in the Bible it states that; “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2
They are messengers from heaven. This was not the only time that God brought angels to us. In fact they are around all the time.
